7th Pay Commission: Central government may announce increase in DA by the end of this month. The increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) will be considered effective from July 1, 2023. According to media reports, it is expected to increase from 3 percent to 45 percent. An update on DA has come from the Himachal Pradesh government. Himachal Pradesh government has increased DA by 3 percent for Forest Corporation employees from January 1, 2022.
This is how DA is decided
Dearness allowance for employees and pensioners is decided every month on the basis of CPI-IW of Labor Bureau. Labor Bureau comes under the Labor Ministry. All-India CPI-IW for July 2023 rose by 3.3 points to 139.7. If we look at the change in one month, there has been an increase of 2.42 percent as compared to the previous month. Whereas, an increase of 0.90 percent was recorded between the same month a year ago.
This much increase in salary itself
Due to increase in DA by 3 percent, the salary of central employees will also increase. If someone’s salary is Rs 50,000 per month and his basic salary is Rs 15,000. He currently gets Rs 6,300 as dearness allowance, which is 42 percent of the basic salary. If there is an increase of 3 percent then DA will increase to Rs 6,750 per month. This will increase by Rs 450 compared to earlier.
DA increases twice a year
DA is given to government employees, while DR (Dearness Relief – DR) is given to pensioners. DA and DR are increased twice a year in January and July. At present, more than one crore central government employees and pensioners are getting 42 percent dearness allowance. Now it is expected to increase by 3 percent to 45 percent.
When will the government increase DA – Ganesh Chaturthi or Diwali?
If we look at the trend of last years, the government has mostly announced increase in DA before Diwali. This time, if media reports are to be believed, the government may announce increase in DA during Ganesh Utsav.
