Asus ROG Phone 7 and Phone 7 Ultimate: Asus’ newest smartphone offerings, the ROG Phone 7 and Phone 7 Ultimate, are designed with gamers in mind. They may be preordered now in Europe and Taiwan, with expected delivery sometime later in the month. Prices for the standard Phone 7 in Europe begin at €999 (£999.99), while those for the top-tier Phone 7 Ultimate begin at €1,399 (£1,199.99).

Both smartphones have Qualcomm’s newest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU given its intended use for gaming. The “upgraded GameCool 7 thermal system” is there to keep the CPU cool under stress, allowing it to function at its peak. According to Asus, the vapor chamber cooling mechanism in these phones is up to 168% more effective in dissipating heat than the one found in last year’s ROG Phone 6.

The Ultimate model of the phone includes a cooling fan attachment called the AeroActive Cooler 7 for those who want even more ventilation. When it’s installed, air flows through the handset’s tiny intake (the AeroActive Portal) and over the vapor chamber’s cooling fins. As much as 20% more thermal efficiency, according to Asus. The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate retains the same Portal as last year’s ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, but it has been certified as dust and water resistant to IP54 standards.

The AeroActive Cooler 7 has a subwoofer that, according to Asus, increases bass loudness by 77%. Moreover, the phone has twin front-firing speakers that, according to the manufacturer, provide 50 percent more “effective volume” than the speakers on last year’s model. If you’d prefer not use the internal speakers at all, there’s a 3.5mm connector for headphones.

The AeroActive Cooler 7 has upgraded cooling and audio, but it also has a kickstand, RGB lights (duh), and an extra USB-C connector and 3.5mm headphone jack for a more conventional controller experience.

Despite its focus on gaming, the ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are otherwise rather standard mobile devices. The OLED screens on both phones are 6.78 inches in size and can reach up to 1,500 nits of brightness at 165 frames per second. They include a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide, and a 5-megapixel macro on the back, and a 6,000mAh battery that can be quickly charged at up to 65W. The Ultimate variant, like other ROG phones like the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, features a rear-mounted display that can be customized.

There has been no confirmation of a release date or price for the ROG Phone 7 or Phone 7 Ultimate in the United States.
