Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam: Tamil Nadu government started a special scheme for women from Friday. State Chief Minister MK Stalin launched the scheme in Kanchipuram, which has been named Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam. This scheme focuses on the social welfare of women.

Under Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam scheme of Tamil Nadu government, eligible women will get help of one thousand rupees every month from the government. More than one crore women of Tamil Nadu are going to get financial help from this scheme. While launching the scheme in Kanchipuram, Chief Minister Stalin distributed debit cards to many beneficiary women on this occasion. The ministers of the state government started this scheme in their respective districts.

Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam means Kalaignar Women Rights Grant Scheme. This scheme has been started on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister CN Annadurai. This scheme is being said as a tribute to the late leader. The scheme is named after former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who was popularly known as Kalaignar.

More than 1 crore people benefited

This scheme is actually a basic income program, the objective of which is to empower the women of the state who are the heads of their families. The state government had made a provision of Rs 7000 crore for the scheme in the budget presented this year. This is the biggest social welfare scheme of the state government. For this the state government has received 1.63 crore applications. After verification, 1.6 crore applicants have been considered eligible for benefits.

They can avail the benefits of this scheme

Women above 21 years of age and transgenders are eligible for this scheme. For this, both married and unmarried women can apply, the only condition is that they should be the head of their family. The annual income of the applicants should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh. Under this scheme, money will be sent directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries through DBT.
