So many complaints

With over 50 crore users in India, WhatsApp is the most popular messaging platform in the country. In September, WhatsApp received a record 10,442 complaint reports in India. Of these, 85 were actioned, which means these accounts were banned or restored.

“This user security report includes details of user complaints received and action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform,” the company said.In addition, the company received six orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee in the country in September and complied with them.

To empower millions of Indian social media users, the Centre recently launched the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) that looks into their concerns regarding content and other issues. The newly formed panel, a step towards strengthening the country’s digital laws to rein in Big Tech companies, will look into appeals made by users against decisions of social media platforms. According to the information, WhatsApp can close more accounts in the coming days.
